Are Christians Supposed To Tithe (Give 10% of Their Income to a Church)? No, Never!
As shocking as this may sound, tithing is a literal fraud, in fact one of the biggest most lucrative frauds ever to be unleashed upon society (to the tune of billions of dollars per year). Tithing fuels the false church system and allows unscrupulous men to collect massive amounts of money with no accountability whatsoever and without having to provide any merits for their intended use of that money. Tithing as taught in the modern church is nothing more than a system of policed and enforced “giving”, which is not voluntary giving at all. It's actually an involuntarily taxation. And wherever taxation is involved, money is not given voluntarily based on the merits of the situation or based on any real perceived need, but is surrendered because it must be surrendered no questions asked. For any conman, that is a goose that lays golden eggs. It doesn't get any better than that. It doesn't get any better than convincing unwary people that God Himself is taxing them. Who can argue with God? No one. The problem is these people are not really speaking for God. They speak the thing the Lord has not spoken and claim that God spoke it, which is one of the major characteristics of a false prophet. The second major characteristic of a false prophet is they
"foretell" events that don't end up coming to pass as predicted.
Christians have been literally robbed by these teachers and "pastors", men who are so deceived in this area, that they think it is God’s will and mandate for them to extort money from unsuspecting victims. God approves of no such thing. Very few modern tithe teachers realize that they have no right whatsoever to exact a tithe from Christians or from anyone for that matter. And very few of these men are open to any warning on the subject. Many of these men have become so entangled in “needing” this money, among other things, in order to pay large salaries, massive overheard and church building debt (salaries, overheard and debt that they had no Biblical right to establish or incur in the first place), that they won't even consider that what they are doing is wrong.
Tithing is never once taught in the New Testament, which is the blueprint for Christian living. Some argue that Jesus upheld tithing in the New Testament. But what they fail to recognize is when Jesus told various men in the New Testament that they should "not neglect" the tithe was because those men were Jews, not Christians and Jesus had not yet died on the cross and rose from the dead redeeming us in general from ceremonial Jewish law.
Probably the most compelling doctrinal evidence that tithing is unbiblical can be found in 2Cor 9:7, where we see Christians are supposed to be cheerful givers, not giving under compulsion or out of necessity, but instead (as implied in this passage), by love.
“Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2Cor 9:7 NASB
It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to keep the Bible’s command to not give under compulsion while believing that one owes a compulsory tax of 10% of their income, let alone to be given to some charlatan to spend any way that he wants.
No you absolutely should NOT tithe. And in the same way that you do not owe anyone, even a tithe teacher 10% of your income, you do not owe them nor should you give them any offerings, building fund commitments, pastoral gifts, etc. You should save your money for your family and for the poor and needy in your neighborhood as well as others within your circle of influence. It's solely up to you how, where and when you might give (if at all), depending on the circumstances.
But that being said, tithing is still one of the most difficult false teachings to avoid and one of the hardest false “church” habits to break. The reason is because Christians have been so utterly pounded with endless fear tactics and other emotional abuses in order to keep them tithing. Many Christians actually incorrectly believe that they will get sick, lose their job or their car will break down, or some other fear-based lunacy will happen to them if they fail to tithe to the teacher who is preaching that garbage to them. That is exactly the kind of thing that many of these men usually teach and it’s all unbiblical nonsense, nothing more than the extortion of money through threats and other clever fear tactics. And who is the direct beneficiary of this extortion? You guessed it. The tithe teacher! (Note: if God actually punished Christians for missing it when it comes to giving money, which He does not, a lot of Christians would be in big trouble. They would have gotten sick or would have lost their jobs, etc. due to supporting these fraudulent men!)
Endless unwary Christians support tithe teachers today. They not only give these men 10% of their income, but also lots of additional money in the form of general offerings, building fund commitments, pastoral gifts, etc. This can easily amount to 15% - 20% or more of their total net income, way more than enough to totally sink them financially. It's no surprise that so many tithers are struggling deeply financially, especially today in these hard economic times, going into more and more debt to pay these ungodly payments, all while the men who receive this money are often prospering wildly and claiming to be "blessed" of God.
Here are a few quick bullet points regarding what we see in the Bible on the subject of tithing (and there is much more that could be said on this subject):
The same men who teach that tithing is required today gladly eat pork (which of course is OK for any Christian to eat). But according to the Bible, as we see in the book of Galatians, anyone who keeps any Old Testament ceremonial law (such as tithing) must also keep all of the Old Testament ceremonial laws (including the law that states that eating pork is forbidden). Interesting. We do not see these counterfeit tithe teachers slaughtering bulls and goats as sacrifices to God (not that Christians or anyone should do so). The point is these tithe teachers pick and choose to pull forward whatever they want from the Old Testament law, whatever is convenient for them and their agendas, while they throw out whatever is inconvenient for them (such as the prohibition on owning personal property, the prohibition on eating pork, animal sacrifices, etc.). In a nutshell they keep whatever they want and throw out whatever they don’t like, whatever does not suit them. But the Bible is never supposed to be handled or interpreted in a haphazard self-serving way.
Tithing as taught today is clearly a taxation fraud passed off as Christian giving. Obviously this is not remotely biblical and not remotely in keeping with God's mandate to be a cheerful giver not giving under compulsion. But how can anyone do as he (or she) has purposed in his or her own heart if he or she is at the same time required and thereby forced to tithe? It's impossible.
The bottom line is don't fall for the lie of the tithe. Tithing is more than a mere myth, it's a strong deception that can have a far reaching impact on one's life. Don't support these men and their abusive churches. Don't let the ungodly tithe teaching rob you and your family of much needed income as well as the joy of giving when and wherever you may see fit.

Here are a few quick bullet points regarding what we see in the Bible on the subject of tithing (and there is much more that could be said on this subject):
- Tithes were never collected in cash (livestock and crops only).
- Tithes were collected only by Levitical priests.
- A Levitical priest must be Jewish.
- A Levitical priest must own no personal property. (Have you seen any pastors lately who own no personal property?)
- There are presently no more of these priests in existence today so we know we have lots of counterfeit Levitical priests running around.
- Tithes were often mandated by God for other uses such as giving to the poor. Tithes were sometimes to be used for the personal needs of the person who tithed. (When have you ever seen a pastor give the tithe back to the giver?)
The same men who teach that tithing is required today gladly eat pork (which of course is OK for any Christian to eat).
